The Prevalence and Risk Factors of Tuberculosis in Non-Communicable Disease Patient

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis was the key problem of Surin province. The tuberculosis clinic had both new patients and old patients with recurrent disease. There were two groups of patients in Tuberculosis clinic of Kapchoeng hospital, namely without underlying disease and with NCDs.
Objectives: To study the prevalence of tuberculosis and to study the risk factor of tuberculosis in non-communicable disease patients in Kapchoeng Hospital.
Methods: The retrospective cohort study was conducted. TB patients diagnosed, treated and registered at Kapchoeng Hospital, Surin Province during October 1st, 2017 -September 30th, 2022. Searched data from Kapchoeng Hospital database and National Tuberculosis Information Program (NTIP) database registered at Kapchoeng Hospital tuberculosis clinic. The general data was analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. And analyzed the prevalence of tuberculosis and the risk factor of tuberculosis in non-communicable disease patients.
Results: The prevalence of tuberculosis in the tuberculosis clinic of Kapchoeng Hospital found that the prevalence of tuberculosis in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 was 127.9, 126.2, 105.4, 98.7 และ 113.8 per 100,000 population. The significant risk factor of tuberculosis in non-communicable diseases patient were average age (AOR =1.020 [95%CI 1.007-1.033]) whereas gender, weight, alcohol drinking, smoking and history of close contact tuberculosis patient were insignificant (p-value < 0.05)
Conclusion: The prevalence of tuberculosis found in Kapchoeng hospital tends to decrease. And a significant risk factor of tuberculosis in non-communicable disease patient was average age.
