Efficiency of Outpatient Screening among Registered Nurse, Pak Thong Chai Hospital, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

Abstract

Background: The Important role for patients screening according to the level of emergency was the main duty of a registered nurse. The guidelines for patients screening according to the level of emergency that standardized can be used for assessment to effectively patients screening, able to save the lives of critically patients in a timely manner and Effectively reduces errors in patient screening.
Objective: This study aimed to the efficiency of using outpatient screening guidelines among registered nurse, Pak Thong Chai Hospital, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental research. The samples were consisted of 5 registered Nurses at the outpatient department and 350 patients who received services at the outpatient department, Pak Thong Chai Hospital Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The research instrument included the Individual efficiency screening assessment form and the outpatient screening guidelines according to the criteria of Emergency Severity Index (ESI). Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and compare the mean differences for screening efficiency by Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank test.
Results: The results showed that after receiving outpatient screening guidelines according to the criteria of Emergency Severity Index (ESI), all registered nurses had an ability for correctly outpatients screening, emergency and urgency cases, at a high level and all registered nurses had a statistically significant mean score of correctly outpatient screening efficiency better than before the experiment (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The outpatient screening guidelines according to the criteria of Emergency Severity Index (ESI) contributes to increasing the ability of registered nurses for effective screening.
