Abstract

Down syndrome is the most frequently occurring chromosomal abnormality in humans. The syndrome is due to trisomy 21 in all or some cells of the body and associated with mental retardation, congenital heart defects, leukemias, hypothyroidism and respiratory infections. This study reports a 9-year-old girl referring to dental treatment because of multiple dental caries. Dentists should be aware of the patient’s systemic disease and evaluate behavior for dental treatment. This patient is friendly and cooperative in dental treatment for a short period of time. The comprehensive dental treatment was done in 4 visits. In addition, preventive dentistry and periodic follow-up will be required to maintain good oral health.
