Abstract

Background: Intraoral prosthesis restoration of maxillary defect has a fundamental problem of inadequate stability and retention of the prosthesis. Patients with acquired jaw defects treated with prosthesis present variable prosthesis longevity due to variable factor that influence size and locate of defect, remaining teeth, anatomical tissue foundation and physiologically supported prosthesis.
Objective: To report a case of Intraoral prosthesis restoration for maxillary defect and review the literatures.
Methods: Case report
Case report: A 52 year-old man had radiation therapy and surgery treatment for oral cancer at the right side. He complained of The resultant maxillary and palatal defect created a communication between the oral and nasal cavities that will impair the intelligibility of speech, aesthetics and the function of mastication. Intraoral prosthesis was indicated to correct this problem.
Conclusion: The problems might be solved depending on oral examination, team approach, accuracy of the clinical diagnosis, understanding prosthesis design and patient education & frequent maintainance is encouraged for the success of prosthodontic treatment.
Key words: Intraoral Prosthesis, Maxillary Defect
