Nursing Knowledge and Practice according to Patient Safety Goals of Registered Nurses, Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital

This cross-sectional descriptive research aimed to study nursing knowledge and practice according to the patient safety goals of registered nurses at Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital. Samples were 211 registered nurses selected to the study using stratified random sampling method. Research measurements were consisted of the Patient Safety Knowledge Scale (PSK) and the Patient Safety Practice Scale (PSP). The validity of the two measures was analyzed using the content validity index (CVI) yielding the CVI of 1.00. The scales' reliabilities were conducted using Kuder- Richardson (KR-20) for the PSK and Cronbach's alpha coefficient for the PSP, which was 0.72 and 0.87, respectively. The data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations and tested for correlations using Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient.
The results showed that 78.20 percent of the sampling had knowledge according to patient safety goals at a good level ( =19.89, SD=2.84), and 78.70 percent of them practiced according to patient safety goals at a very good level ( =97.84, SD=11.57). The knowledge was significantly related to nursing practice according to the patient safety goals (r=0.217, p<0.01). The results of this study could be used as prior information to further develop guidelines for promoting knowledge and nursing practice according to the patient safety goals among registered nurses.
