Structural Empowerment and Dental Infection Control Guideline Implementation among Dental Personnel at Government Hospitals under Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office

Abstract
This survey research aimed to study (1) the receipt of structural empowerment and the implementation of dental infection control guidelines, and (2) the relationships between gender, job position, work experience as well as structural empowerment, and the implementation of dental infection control guidelines, all among dental personnel.
The study was undertaken in a sample of 184 dental personnel selected using the stratified random sampling according to job position out of all 384 dental staff at government hospitals under the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office (PPHO). Data collected by questionnaires in 2020. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and multiple regression analysis.
The results showed that, among dental respondents in this study: (1) their receipt of structural empowerment and compliance with the dental infection control guidelines were at a high level; and (2) when model variables had been controlled, gender, work experience and structural empowerment were significantly associated with their performance in implementing the dental infection control guidelines (p-value <0.05). The top influencing factor was structural empowerment, followed by being male and work experience (β = 0.381, -0.173 and 0.144). But there was no association between the practice of dental infection control guidelines and job position. In conclusion the structural empowerment and work experience exerted a positive influence while being male had a negative influence on the dental infection control.
