Abstract

In pregnant women with diabetes, appropriate fruit selection is essential to maintain glycemiccontrol and support maternal–fetal health. Fruits with a low glycemic index (GI) are recommended because they reduce postprandial blood glucose excursions and provide important nutrients. Low-GI fruits such as guava,
apple, pear, roseapple, and berries are rich in dietary fiber, water, and antioxidants, contributing to improved
bowel function, hydration, and metabolic stability. In contrast, moderate- to high-GI fruits, including ripe bananas, and rambutan, should be consumed with strict portion control. Current recommendations suggest limiting fruit intake to 2–3 servings per day, distributed throughout the day (approximately one serving per occasion), with each serving providing about15 g of carbohydrates. Proper fruit selection and portion management may help optimize glycemic control and promote healthy pregnancy outcomes.
