Effects of the Self-efficacy Promoting Program on Self-care Behaviors in Delaying Chronic Kidney Disease among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

This study is a one-group pretest-posttest design research to examine effects of self-efficacy promoting program on self-care behaviors in delaying chronic kidney disease among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Samples were 30 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who attended the chronic disease clinic of Samukkee Community Health Promotion Center in Mahasarakham province. These participants were selected using simple random sampling. The tools of this study were a self-efficacy-promoting program consists of knowledge giving, learning from the use of models. Demonstration and practice of self-care skills to delaying chronic kidney disease and verbal persuasion. The data collection instrument was a self-efficacy questionnaire and a self-care behavior for delaying chronic kidney disease questionnaire with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.77 and 0.72. The study was conducted for a total of 12 weeks. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests. The results showed that after using the self-efficacy program, the mean score on the post-test of the perceived self-efficacy and delaying chronic kidney disease behavior was significantly increased before using the program were statistical significancy difference at p<0.001.
